The Lake Ontario Body Identified as Max, Son of ESPN Writer Ivan Maisel

The body of a young man found in Lake Ontario has been identified as Max Maisel, 21. Max was a student at the Rochester Institute of Technology and had been missing since February 22. He was last spotted in the vicinity of Charlotte Pier. Rochester police said that the cause of death remains unclear. The body was spotted some 200 yards away from the Coast Guard Station in Irondequoit by a fisherman.
In a written statement, Max's family thanked the officers for finding their loved one. The father of Max is Ivan Maisel, an ESPN writer. "We knew this day would come, and we are relieved that it has," reads the note signed by Maisel's father, Ivan, and Ivan Maisel's wife, Meg Murray. "But it is merely the postscript to our sad story. We have mourned Max from the night that the Rochester police called to tell us he was missing. There was no other plausible solution to the puzzle he left behind. Now we must get on with living with this hole in our lives."
Max was known as a person with a sweet tooth, who loved anime and photography, and loved to hang around the pier. His family said Max loved to laugh. Ivan Maisel implied in the eulogy for his son that it may be possible he could have taken his own life, even though the police are not yet certain about the cause of death.
